I went to the movies today, and while watching, I paid attention to my body's reactions. It turns out that as the film went on, my muscles were involuntarily tensing up.

Our brains contain mirror neurons, which is why we smile when we see a baby smile, or might furrow our brows when we see a baby cry. Mirror neurons are what give us empathy.

In our daily lives, we interact with all sorts of people, and sometimes we unconsciously mirror the feelings and emotions of others. That’s why we can ask ourselves: are the feelings I have today my own, or have I just "absorbed" them from someone else?
